Watch Again: IGU Geodiversity Seminar 2024

On October 6th, the 2024 International Geographical Union (IGU) Seminar on "Geodiversity from Geographical Perspectives" was successfully held online under the sponsorship of the Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB), Chinese Academy of Sciences. Over 30 experts and scholars from 13 countries including China, Finland, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, The United Kingdom, and Turkey participated in the seminar with the theme of "Conserving the Past, Sustaining the Future".


The online meeting was hosted by Prof. Wang Pei from IHB. Firstly, Prof. Yukio Himiyama (IGU Past President and Emeritus Professor at Hokkaido University of Education) gave a brief introduction of the Seminar. Secondly, eight speakers presented in the three sessions:

  • Session 1: Geodiversity Showcase

  • Session 2: Geodiversity Sustains Biodiversity

  • Session 3: Geodiversity – Understanding Contexts for Policies


Lastly, Prof. Himiyama chaired the round table discussion with discussants including Prof. Mike Meadows (IGU Immediate Past President), Prof. Suraj Mal (Center for the Study of Regional Development, Jawaharlal Nehru University), Prof. Wang Pei (Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences), and Prof. Maria Paradiso (IGU Vice President, University Federico II, Naples, and National Marine Biodiversity Centre).
